The Jon Egging Trust were recently awarded Community Grant Funding from the Conwy Valley & North West Wales Coast Community Rail Partnership to deliver activity-based learning days as part of their Blue Skies programmes in North Wales.
The Fund was set up in September 2022, in partnership with Transport for Wales, to support the resilience and sustainability of community organisations within a five-mile radius of stations along the routes from Llandudno to Blaenau Ffestiniog and Llandudno Junction to Holyhead.
Year 8 students from Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi kick-started their first Blue Skies session at Beacon Climbing Centre, building their teamwork skills and resilience.
Many pupils initially lacked confidence and felt apprehensive about taking part. After the session, they were all smiles and hugely motivated after conquering their fears and building trust and self-belief.
Lisa Evans, JET’s youth officer for North Wales said:
“I was so proud of all of the students, some were initially pushed a long way out of their comfort zones, but they all encouraged each other and pushed themselves to their limits, exceeding their personal targets and achieving their goals.”
The Community Grant Fund has given students the opportunity to grow their teamwork skills in an exciting and engaging setting! We look forward to seeing what the North Wales students get up to next.
